10 most common questions about collagen

We collected all the questions you asked from us about collagen, so that everyone understands clearly how to use it.

1. Why is collagen necessary to our body?

As the most abundant protein in the body, collagen is available in your muscles, skin, blood, bones, cartilage, and ligaments. Your body uses protein to build and repair tissues, to make enzymes, hormones, and other body chemicals.

2. What role plays C-vitamin in collagen absorbing?

Studies demonstrated that vitamin C has the potential to increase collagen synthesis, and reduce oxidative stress parameters. As you age, your collagen levels begin to decrease. Eating foods rich in vitamin C and protein can increase the levels and collagen in the body as both are important for skin.

3. What is the recommended amount of collagen in one day?

Something to remember is that collagen is a form of protein. So when you’re trying to determine how much collagen you need, the first step is to calculate how much protein your body needs daily. We need 0,8-1,5 g of total protein pre 1 kg of body weight.

Along with fat and carbohydrates, protein is a “macronutrient,” meaning that the body needs relatively large amounts of it. But unlike fat and carbohydrates, the body does not store protein, and therefore has no reservoir to draw on when it needs a new supply.

It’s a good idea to take roughly 10 grams of it per day, either in your favorite drink or in a smoothie. However, if you live a very active lifestyle, have joint pain, or  your hair, skin, and nails are simply lacking in the youthful resilience they used to, taking up to 30 grams of collagen is probably right for you.

4. When can I see first results?

That may depend on what you’re looking for – if you’re taking it  for joint pain, then you might start to feel a difference in 3-6 weeks. However, if you’re taking it for skin, hair, and nails, you’ll really start noticing results after about two or three months, although some of the effects can usually be observed after 4 weeks.

8. What is grass-fed bovine collagen?

Grass-fed collagen comes from cattle. With grass-fed cows, life is happier, healthier and more natural.

9. Is it okay to process collagen in a blender?

Yes it is –  hydrolyzed collagen is obtained through a hydrolysis process in which collagen proteins are broken down into smaller parts. Smaller collagen particles are easier for the body to digest and use. Blending does not reduce that effect on our body.

10. On what occasion should you not use collagen?

If you consume products that contain a lot of animal protein in your daily basis, such as milk, eggs, cheese, curd, kefir, yogurt, cottage cheese, meat, etc., it is not recommended to consume extra collagen. If your doctor has advised you to reduce the amount of protein in your diet, you may also want to avoid protein supplements, including collagen.

Consumption of collagen is also unsuitable for vegans, as it is an animal product.

If you are allergic to any of these ingredients, do not consume these products. We also have a selection of pure hydrolyzed collagen powder, which is a good alternative to collagen mixtures incase of allergy.
