The immune system defends the body against infection. Although it works effectively most of the time, sometimes our immune system fails, and we become sick. Are there ways we can boost our immune system and prevent illness?
The immune system is a network of special cells, tissues, proteins, and organs that work together to protect the body from potentially damaging foreign invaders and disease. Researchers have investigated the effect of factors, such as exercise, diet, and stress on the response of the immune system. The best thing you can do to maintain your immune system is to adopt healthy living strategies that will benefit the entire body, including your immune system.
Healthy living strategies:
Eating a diet rich in plant based foods.
Exercising regularly. Just 20 minutes of moderate exercise stimulated the immune system.
Maintaining a healthy weight.
Getting enough sleep.
Avoiding infection through regular hand washing.
Reducing stress helps to support normal immune system function.
Stay socially connected. Loneliness has also been pinpointed as a stressor that may affect the immune system.
Getting outside in the sunlight benefits the immune system.
Diet and the immune system.
Consuming a balanced diet will help maintain normal immune function. Vitamins A, C, and D, and minerals — including zinc — play a role in the functioning of the immune system.
Get vitamin A from animal sources like eggs and liver. Get beta-carotene from plant sources like dark leafy, green vegetables; dark orange fruits (apricots, cantaloupe) and vegetables (carrots, winter squash, sweet potatoes, pumpkin).
Be More Be Active superfood mix is a great source of vitamin C. 2 tablespoons of this mix will support you with all the vitamin C you need in a day. Also, Be More Be Active superfood mix supports the body with high amounts of different B group vitamins, folic acid, potassium, phosphor and iron. There is plenty of Vitamin C also in Be More Be Beautiful superfood mix.
Fatty fish is a great source of vitamin D. When exposed to sunlight, the skin can make vitamin D. Fish oil rich in DHA has been found to enhance B cell activity, which could be promising for those with compromised immune systems.
You will get zinc from meat, shellfish, legumes, whole grains, Be More Be Fit superfood mix and Be More Detox superfood mix.
Soluble fiber switches immune cells from pro-inflammatory to anti-inflammatory, which helps us to heal faster from infection. All fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes contain some soluble fiber, but certain foods like Brussels sprouts, avocados, flaxseeds and black beans are the cream of the crop. Be More fiber-rich products are chia seeds, hemp seeds and all superfood mixes such as Be Smart, Be Beautiful, Be Fit, Be Active and Detox. Be More raw bars are good for some fiber.
Probiotics help counteract the adverse effects of broad-spectrum antibiotics by keeping the immune system ready to respond to new infections. There are two ways to get more good bacteria into your gut: fermented foods and dietary supplements.
